Mauritius Wedding Formalities
Weddings in Mauritius can be an intimate affair with a simple yet beautiful ceremony or a much more extravagant celebration. Our experienced wedding coordinators offer a bespoke wedding service which allows you to personalise your big day in a variety of ways. Wedding Formalities
Requirements for Civil Marriage:
- Photocopies of each birth certificate drawn up in English
- Photocopies of each passport (the 1st three pages only)
- Any other document relating to divorce, widow/widower or change of name.
It is advisable to have the application made one month before the date of marriage. Therefore, we suggest having the documents at our office eight weeks before your departure. The Civil Status Officer, Affidavit,and transport into Port Louis is arranged by our wedding advisors.
Example Itinerary for a Catamaran Wedding
Our Catamaran weddings start at 5.30pm and the ceremony takes place at sunset.
Depart from the hotel by a Pirogue (small boat), if couples are not sailing from their accommodation transport will be provided.
The couple and their guests then board the catamaran where they will receive a personnel greeting,
The catamaran sets sail to a romantic location, which will provide the perfect backdrop for the ceremony – if you have booked a photographer he will take photographs while the boast is sailing (approx 15 minutes).
The Civil Status Officer will then welcome the couple, before beginning the ceremony by introducing himself and explaining the wedding laws of Mauritius.
The couple then exchange vows and entries are recorded in a book.
The officer declares the couple husband and wife.
The officer will be available for photographs after the exchanging of vows. After the ceremony the photographer and officer will disembark.
The chef and an assistant will serve drinks and the wedding dinner.
Wedding cakes and champagne is normally served after the wedding dinner, but they can be served after the ceremony if the couple want photographs.
The dinner finishes around 10pm, after which the newlyweds will be transferred back to their hotel by car.
